By lacquering the sidewalls of our birch slide out shelves we lock and seal the wood fiber which prevents the fibers from separating from drying out or by moisture penetration. Lacquering also will prevent typical body oils from blackening the wood. We strongly advise sealing any wood product to prevent delaminating  of plys
