Under Sink Roll Out Shelves

We installed two roll out shelves under the kitchen sink. Since there is always plumbing   to deal with under sinks we installed 20 inch deep roll outs. This gave us the most   storage possible without having the plumbing and electrical wires interfere.

We used full extension slides on the shelves as we will be adding pull out organizers under the sink also ( next post).

Full extension drawer slides are the easiest slides to install with the correct mounting brackets. We used blum universal brackets that are attached to the drawer slides and can be secured directly to the bottom of the sink cabinet.

The first step is to align the front of the slide to the middle of the face frame on the   cabinet as pictured below

We will typically pull the slides back from the shelf to expose the rear mounting bracket prior to aligning the front of the slides with the face frame ( pictured below)

The next step is to insert a screw in the elongated holes of the bracket into the cabinet bottom on both sides.

After securing both rear brackets, we slide the shelf out until it stops. This exposes the front brackets. We insert a screw through the elongated holes on both sides of the front brackets.

Now we slide the roll out shelf completley into the cabinet and make sure that the shelf is square with the cabinet. Since full extension slides are captured on both sides there usually is no more adjusting neccassary. The final step in securing the drawer to the cabinet is to insert a screw into the middle hole of each bracket.

Now the shelf is installed and secured we remove the shelf to install door protectors by sliding the shelf out until it stops, then depressing the release lever on both slides.

With the roll out shelf out of the cabinet we can install the door protector

After attaching the door protector ( the protector helps to prevent the slide from scratching the door if the shelf is slid out before the door is opened entirely) we reinsert the shelf back into the cabinet. Note: the door hinge is 3 1/2 inches above the cabinet floor so we were able to make the roll out shelf the entire width of the opening, if the hinge is less than 2 1/2 inches above the cabinet floor, we would have measured from hinge to the other side. Also notice the electrical wires on the right, they will come into play when we insert the other shelf

We installed the other shelf under the sink the same way. The electrical cord for the disposal would have hung down and interfered when rolling the shelf in and out, so we took a twist tie and attached it to the dishwasher drain up out of the way

Now we have roll out shelves installed under the sink and will be attaching our organizers to these shelves in the next post
